Biodiversity Sri Lanka (BSL) is a private sector-led national platform dedicated to biodiversity conservation. Our members shape our direction, guide our priorities, and support the collaborative action needed to protect Sri Lanka's natural heritage.
As a member-driven organisation, BSL brings together businesses, technical partners, and other stakeholders to promote dialogue, knowledge sharing, and private sector action in biodiversity conservation.

Biodiversity Sri Lanka was originally established in August 2012 as the Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform, a programme of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
The platform was initiated by:

It was created to provide a space for businesses to come together, share experiences and best practices, and learn from one another on biodiversity and conservation issues as part of their core business and corporate sustainability activities.
In October 2015, the platform was legally incorporated as a Not-for-Profit Company Limited by Guarantee under the Sri Lanka Companies Act No. 07 of 2007. Following this, it was rebranded and relaunched as Biodiversity Sri Lanka.
From its conceptualisation as the Sri Lanka Business and Biodiversity Platform to its establishment as Biodiversity Sri Lanka, this timeline highlights key milestones in BSL’s journey of growth, collaboration, and private sector-led biodiversity action.
The strength of BSL lies in its members. BSL extends membership to Sri Lanka-based enterprises, including national companies, multinational companies, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
BSL formalises collaborations through Memoranda of Understanding to support long-term partnerships and collective action.
In September 2018, BSL signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment to strengthen collaboration on biodiversity conservation and sustainable development.

Our aim is to facilitate national cooperation and knowledge exchange regarding biodiversity conservation, fostering a collaborative environment for shared ideas and information
